My name is Layla, and I’m thrilled to share my journey with you.
Originally from the vibrant Sichuan province in China, I’ve always had a deep love for food, wine, and the joy of bringing people together over great meals.

For many years, I honed my skills running bars and restaurants in luxury hotels across China. It was an exciting chapter of my life, filled with the art of curating exceptional experiences for guests. Eventually, I took the leap and opened my own wine bar in Beijing—a place where I could combine my passion for fine wines with my love for creating memorable moments. My wine bar won several prestigious awards, and I cherished every moment of introducing customers to unique wines and new flavours.

In 2024, life took me on a new adventure when I moved to the UK with my British husband. The move sparked an exciting new chapter in my culinary journey: a desire to introduce authentic Sichuan cuisine to the people here. Sichuan food, with its bold flavours, vibrant spices, and rich culinary heritage, holds a special place in my heart. I wanted to create a space where people could relax, unwind with a nice glass of wine, and enjoy the mouth-watering complexity of Sichuan flavours.

And that’s how The Mala Dragon was born — a place that combines the warmth of my Sichuan roots with a modern, relaxed atmosphere. Here, we offer a menu of delicious Sichuan tapas, perfect for sharing with friends, along with a carefully curated wine list to complement every bite.
